Kyo Sohma (草摩 夾) is a fictional character in the manga and anime series entitled Fruits Basket. He transforms into an orange cat whenever he is hugged by the opposite gender or when his body comes under a great deal of stress. This animal, however, is not in the Chinese Zodiac. Because of this, Kyo is considered an outcast by his family, and has been mistreated all his life. Kyo is short-tempered, impulsive, and rude, often accidently insulting the people he would like to be his friends. He wears a bracelet of black and white juzu beads; they keep him from transforming into the Cat's true form.
Kyo was raised by his martial arts master, Sohma Kazuma. Kazuma (whom Kyo calls "Shishou") loves Kyo like a son, and was the only adult of the family that hasn't looked on him with fear or hatred. Kyo is an expert fighter, but is still unable to defeat Yuki.
He is sometimes called "Kyonkyon" and "Kyonkichi." He hates leeks, miso, and Yuki. But mostly Yuki.
He came to Fandom High to get away from his controlling head-of-the family, Akito. He also wishes to figure out how to break his family's curse. Since his time on the island, he has grown very attached to his roommate,
Peter Petrelli, despite their current lack of communication. He is also fond of his Big Sister, Marie.
